Kathmandu: The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has completed a special program by lighting 108 lamps at the Buddhist Stupa in Swayambhu on Saturday morning, marking its 22nd foundation day.
The lamp was lit in the presence of the association's president, Mahesh Kumar Shrestha; former President Binod Kunwar; Vice President Khagendra Neupane; Biswasdeep Tingela; General Secretary Baburam (B.R.) Lama, Treasurer Thakur Prasad Dhungana, Europe Coordinator Prem Gurung, and other office bearers and members, wishing for peace, unity, and prosperity.
At the program, Chairman Shrestha stated that there is currently no alternative to unity among the NRNAs and emphasized that all parties should move forward together in this regard. He recalled that the Genji movement on Bhadra 23-24 caused great damage to the country and said that it is now necessary to choose the path of reconstruction and national unity.
Former President Binod Kunwar pointed out the need for all activists to stand on one platform, abandoning personal interests and stubbornness. Vice President Biswasdeep Tingela said that the role of NRNA has now become more responsible and said that joining unity is the need of the hour.
Treasurer Thakur Prasad Dhungana informed that the traffic control room at Baggikhana has reached the final stage as part of the reconstruction campaign started after the Genji movement.
Established on October 11, 2003, with the core spirit of "Once a Nepali, always a Nepali," NRNA is an association with active branches in more than 90 countries.
The traffic control room was observed at a tea ceremony organized at Baggikhana on Saturday to mark the foundation day. Vice President Manoj Gorkhali said that this is just the beginning of nation-building and that much more work remains to be done.
In his welcome address, Vice President Khagendra Neupane warned that the organization would become weak if there was no unity within the organization and urged the leaders and activists of the organization to leave behind ego and petty fights and not miss the golden opportunity to move forward by forming a single NRN. He warned everyone to stay away from the tendency of saying "unity" with their mouths but creating division in their hearts.
