The voting process for selecting the new leadership of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) USA began on Sunday. About 13,000 members of the association will vote for their preferred candidates through ballots sent via email and mobile. This time, there will be a three-way competition between Bhanu Kharel, Satendra Sah, and Ramhari Adhikari for the post of president. All three candidates were intensifying the final phase of activities to woo voters before the election. Due to the divisions, disputes, and internal dissatisfaction seen in the last term, this time the members have appeared more cautious in selecting the leadership. In states with a large number of voters, like California, New York, and Texas, members have expressed expectations for the new leadership. Along with the president, there is also competition for other positions, including vice president, general secretary, secretary, and others. All three candidates have entered the field with a pail. President Emmanuel Macron says Talks Should Focus on 'Protecting European Interests'

French President Emmanuel Macron has urged the EU's negotiating team to firmly defend European interests, opposing US President Donald Trump's threat to impose a 30 percent tariff on the European Union.

US President Donald Trump has threatened a 30 percent tariff increase on Mexico and the European Union, effective from August 1.

Expressing France's "strong disagreement" with the announcement, Macron called for "all instruments to be mobilized and preparations for a credible response" if the two sides fail to reach an agreement by August 1.

"France fully supports the European Commission in accelerating negotiations to reach a mutually acceptable agreement by August 1. This reflects the respect that trading partners such as the European Union and the United States should have for each other," he wrote on social media.

Earlier on Saturday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen criticized Trump's proposed new tariffs on August 1.

“A 30% tariff on EU exports would disrupt essential transatlantic supply chains, harming businesses, consumers and patients on both sides of the Atlantic,” European Commission President von der Leyen said in a statement.

“We stand ready to work towards an agreement by August 1. We will take all necessary steps to protect EU interests, including taking proportionate countermeasures if necessary,” she said.

The US was set to increase tariffs on the EU and dozens of other economies from a 10% base level starting Wednesday, but Trump pushed back the deadline on Saturday to August 1.

US President Trump announced the 30% tariff increase on Saturday, targeting Mexico and the European Union (EU).

“Both tax announcements will take effect on August 1,” he said in a formal letter posted on his Truth social platform.

President Trump cited Mexico’s role in the flow of illegal drugs into the United States and the trade imbalance with the EU as reasons for the tariffs.

The EU has sharply criticized the announcement, warning that it will disrupt supply chains, but said it would continue negotiations on a deal ahead of the deadline.

After President Trump threatened to impose a 30 percent tariff on Europe, Germany’s industry body on Saturday urged Washington and the European Union (EU) to quickly resolve the escalating trade conflict.

“President Trump’s announcement is a wake-up call for industries on both sides of the Atlantic,” the Federation of German Industries (BDI) said in a statement.

“A trade conflict between two closely linked economic regions, the EU and the United States, harms economic recovery, innovation and ultimately confidence in international cooperation,” said Wolfgang Niedermark, a senior official at the BDI.

The federation has urged the German government, the European Commission and the US administration to find a solution immediately and prevent tensions from escalating.
