Nepal's first green school, Bajra Academy, has been awarded the 'Environmental Conservation Award' by Australia

Kathmandu, July 10 | Nepal's first green school, Bajra Eco Club, run by students of Bajra Academy, has been awarded the prestigious 'Environmental Conservation Award' by Australia, demonstrating its commitment to environmental campaigns. The club was presented with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 (ten thousand rupees) during a special ceremony held in Kathmandu on Friday.

The award was jointly handed over to Bajra Academy Executive Director Bhupendra Bikram Thapa by writer and journalist Saroj Ojha and journalist Sukrit Nepal, two members of the award selection committee. The award was established by philanthropist writer and environmental activist Shiva Neupane, who raised the funds for the award by collecting and selling reusable items in Melbourne, Australia. The campaign aims to spread environmental awareness globally and support grassroots environmental efforts in Nepal.

This year's award was presented to Bajra Eco Club in recognition of its continuous, effective and innovative efforts in the field of environmental conservation and awareness. The club has been spreading environmental messages through waste management, tree plantation programs, reuse and recycling campaigns, and creative arts and cultural programs. The club's efforts to present education in a way that connects the environment have also inspired other schools across the country.

Recently, the club expressed environmental awareness by presenting an environmental play based on the Ramayana at the first 'Sagarmatha Samvad' organized by the Government of Nepal, which received much praise for linking the mythical narrative with an environmental message.

According to the award selection committee, this honor aims to highlight the important role that student-led campaigns can play in solving global challenges such as climate change, pollution, and environmental crises. Bajra Academy, the first school in Nepal to receive green accreditation, has been institutionalizing environmentally sustainable practices in collaboration with education, culture, and the community.

After receiving the award, Bhupendra Bikram Thapa, Executive Director of Bajra Academy, expressed his gratitude and said, "This award not only highlights the dedication of the members of Bajra Eco Club, but also the importance of making future generations responsible for the environment, which is highly relevant in the local and international context."
