Top Maoist leader killed in encounter with security forces in India


The top leader of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) has been killed in an encounter with the police in India. Indian media reported that CPI (Maoist) General Secretary Nambala Keshav Rao was killed in an encounter in the Abujamad forest of Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday morning. According to The Wire, 26 Maoists, including Rao, were killed in the encounter in the forest. Indian officials have called it the biggest achievement so far in the operation against Naxalism. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have confirmed the killing of the Maoist general secretary in a post on X. Some have been taken to the hospital and are said to be in stable condition. Security personnel have recovered a large number of weapons from the forest. The Maoists have condemned the incident.
