Trilateral clash in NRNA America, Kharel, Sah for president, and Anup Khanal takes over as Adhikari general secretary

The voting process for selecting the new leadership of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) USA began on Sunday. About 13,000 members of the association will vote for their preferred candidates through ballots sent via email and mobile. This time, there will be a three-way competition between Bhanu Kharel, Satendra Sah, and Ramhari Adhikari for the post of president. All three candidates were intensifying the final phase of activities to woo voters before the election. Due to the divisions, disputes, and internal dissatisfaction seen in the last term, this time the members have appeared more cautious in selecting the leadership. In states with a large number of voters, like California, New York, and Texas, members have expressed expectations for the new leadership. "The time for action has come"



Kathmandu. Dr. Shesh Ghale, Chair of the High-Level Committee of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), has urged all to obtain membership by April 7, 2025, and join the campaign for institutional reforms.  


Speaking virtually with journalists, Ghale described the General Convention scheduled for May 3–5, 2025, in Kathmandu as a historic opportunity, emphasizing efforts to ensure broad participation. He stressed the need to reform the organization’s statutes, draft necessary documents, and set a new direction for the NRNA through the convention.  


Ghale informed that the High-Level Committee has extended the membership deadline to April 7 and opened delegate applications until April 22. The extension followed a data breach in the MIS (Membership Information System) by another group, prompting the committee to manage membership separately via a dedicated website, which has seen an encouraging response.

- "Participation in the convention is essential—without it, nothing holds meaning. There are still 4–5 days left to become a member. Join, lead, contest, win, and propel the organization forward. But time is short—after April 7, there will be no chance. I strongly urge everyone to apply before the 7th."

- "This is a mandamus (legal mandate). The Foreign Ministry grants us legitimacy. We’re working to enforce this mandate—there’s no room for doubt."


On NRNA’s Purpose and Misuse:  

Ghale acknowledged that while NRNA’s primary goal is policy-focused advocacy, it has sometimes been perceived as misaligned. He cautioned against using the association for personal or business interests:  

- "If exploited for commercial gains, it will derail our mission. NRNA must serve future generations. I view this with a long-term perspective—it’s a serious matter. We cannot waste our time, resources, or energy. Reforms are imperative."


Appeal for Unity:  

He assured that the reform process has begun and appealed to all not to be discouraged: - "This is no time for panic. We’ve taken the initiative to reform. I urge all non-resident Nepalis to join, lead, and prioritize institutional progress."
