Kathmandu. High-level committee coordinator Shesh Ghale, who was given the responsibility of organizing the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Unity Convention by the Supreme Court's mandate, has made his work more aggressive.
Ghale has moved forward to bring the NRNA office, which is being run in a takeover style by the Badri KC faction, under his control and carry out all the work related to the Unity Convention. He is trying to bring the office under his control in accordance with the Supreme Court's decision, said committee member Binod Kuwar.
Accordingly, Ghale has sent a demand letter to the NRNA Secretariat on Monday.
On Monday, a press conference was held at the NRNA headquarters by high-level committee member Binod Kuwar, member Janaki Gurung, NRNA activists Gangadhar Gautam, Thakur Prasad Dhungana, Chintamani Sapkota, Bhimsen Thapa, and Dipesh Khatri, among others. They urged non-resident Nepalis around the world to support the high-level committee in holding the Unity General Assembly.
‘The letter dated 2081.07.01 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the letter of the Supreme Court and the Judgment Implementation Directorate regarding the first meeting of the High-Level Committee of the Non-Resident Nepali Association pursuant to that letter are hereby brought to your attention,’ the letter submitted by Ghale on Monday states. ‘As per the directives of the Supreme Court and the Judgment Implementation Directorate, all offices, employees, administration, cash and in-kind goods, documents and other belongings of the Secretariat of the Non-Resident Nepali Association shall be immediately handed over to this High-Level Committee and further information shall be given as per the directives.’ The letter, understood by Anil Dhungana, an employee of the Secretariat, also states that legal action will be taken if there is any delay in carrying out the work as per the directives.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed the committee to hand over the office of the association. The Directorate wrote to the association on Sunday and directed the high-level committee to hand over all offices, employees, administration, cash and in-kind goods, documents and other belongings for the sponsorship of holding new elections.
The letter, signed by Janak Prasad Sharma, Director of the Supreme Court Judgment Implementation Directorate, also asks the directorate to comply with the directive within 7 days and inform it. If the directive is disobeyed, a report will be submitted stating that the Supreme Court order has been disobeyed and the work has not been carried out, and the court will be defamed, the letter states.
With this, the misinterpretation of the court decision by the group obstructing the office and the confusion spreading among non-resident Nepalis have come to an end. Now, a clear path has been opened for the high-level committee, coordinated by Dr. Shesh Ghale, to hold the convention and elections of the International Coordination Council of the Non-Resident Nepali Association to be held in Kathmandu from May 3 to 5, while some members of the high-level committee who have not attended the meeting and have been uncooperative in the work, and the Badri KC group, have also been in a moral crisis.
Binod Kunwar, a member of the high-level committee, said that since the campaign launched by some groups among the non-resident Nepalis failed due to the Supreme Court's verdict and the clear directives of the Judgment Implementation Directorate, the general convention will be held on time and all non-resident Nepalis will be invited to participate in the unity general convention and join the new leadership selection process.
However, KC has not stopped looking for excuses. In a statement issued by his party's general secretary Gauriraj Joshi on Monday, it was mentioned that serious attention has been drawn to the correspondence.
However, legal experts have been arguing that the second verdict received by Badri KC is not justified since Ghale received a mandate.
