Trying to hold a general convention without a decision is disobedience to the court order: Chairman Shrestha

Kathmandu. Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) President Mahesh Shrestha has said that the Badri KC-led working committee's attempt to hold a general convention while the case is pending in the Supreme Court is a clear disobedience to the court's order.

According to Shrestha, the order to present the issue of whether Badri KC's working committee will work or not until 2082 Kartik 4 (October 21, 2025) to the full bench of the Supreme Court was given by a joint bench of Justice Bal Krishna Dhakal and Justice Abdul Aziz Musalman in the Supreme Court on Baisakh 23. According to the order, the case is still pending and the verdict of the full bench has not been delivered.

'Preparing to hold a general convention without a decision is disrespectful to the judicial process,' said President Shrestha. 'This step is a direct violation of the Supreme Court's order and will only increase disputes instead of unity in the association.' Shrestha said this after KC prepared for the general convention in October.

In the order, Dr. It is clearly stated that the case has been sent to the full bench to provide a definite legal explanation on whether the International Coordination Council, headed by Badri KC, will work or not until Kartik 4. The order states that the final decision will be made only after adopting the necessary legal principles.

Chairman Shrestha urged all NRNA members to study the order thoroughly and take a prudent decision, saying, 'A general convention held without following the court's order will only divide the NRNA, not unite it.'

As per the Supreme Court's decision, Shrestha was elected president at the unity general convention last Baisakh. Shrestha says that he has been the legal president since then. However, KC has been challenging Shrestha's working committee and carrying out activities. Although Shrestha has been expressing his opinion in favor of unity in the NRNA for a long time, there has been no positive result in that direction.
