US President Donald Trump is preparing to provide Ukraine with powerful long-range weapons to fight Russia.
Trump, who has previously been soft on Russian President Vladimir Putin, is preparing to adopt a tough policy against Russia after he appears unprepared for peace.
Trump, who has claimed that there would be no Russia-Ukraine war if he were president, has been taking the initiative to broker a ceasefire since taking office in January.
Trump initially appeared soft on the Kremlin and aggressive towards Kiev in an attempt to broker a ceasefire. However, after Russia rejected the ceasefire proposal on various pretexts, despite his softness, Trump has said that he will provide Ukraine with long-range weapons to attack Russia.
The Financial Times reported that he even asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky whether he could attack the Russian capital.
"Volodymyr! If we get the weapons, can you hit Moscow? Can we hit St. Petersburg too?" Trump asked Zelensky.
In response, Zelensky said that Moscow and St. Petersburg could be attacked if the US provided weapons, according to the Financial Times.
"Of course. If you provide weapons, we can," Zelensky told Trump.
US officials who are aware of the conversation between Trump and Zelensky say that Trump is going to adopt a strategy of forcing the Kremlin to come to the negotiating table by inflicting great pain on Russia through attacks.
That is why Trump is encouraging Zelensky to do so. The Financial Times wrote that the conversation between Trump and Zelensky took place on July 4.
But Washington has not yet confirmed that such weapons will be provided to Ukraine.
Although Ukraine is ready to accept his proposal for a ceasefire, Trump is very angry with Putin after the Kremlin did not agree. International media reported that Trump, who is annoyed with Putin, may attack Ukraine by providing long-range weapons in a fit of anger.
Trump had given Putin 50 days to agree to a ceasefire.
Trump may also have been tough on Russia because of his wife Melania!
US President Donald Trump, annoyed with Russian President Vladimir Putin, announced on Monday that he would provide weapons to Ukraine. He has also threatened to impose high tariffs on countries that buy Russian oil if Russia does not reach a peace agreement within 50 days.
Trump, who has a good relationship with Putin, has been pressuring Ukraine to make a peace agreement on Russia's terms since the start of his second term.
He had stopped the weapons that former US President Joe Biden had decided to give to Ukraine. Not only that, he had also temporarily stopped the intelligence that the US had been providing to Ukraine.
But after Putin showed no desire to stop the war, Trump has recently changed his stance on Russia and Ukraine.
When announcing the arms deal with Ukraine on Monday, Trump also revealed that his wife Melania has been constantly updating him on the damage being done to Ukrainian cities by the Russian attack.
Trump said, 'I go home, I tell the first lady, 'I spoke to Vladimir today, we had a good conversation.'
And she says, 'Oh, really? Another Ukrainian city was just attacked.'
In this context, the British newspaper The Times wrote that Melania, who grew up in Slovenia, the former Yugoslavia, is gradually persuading Trump to help Ukraine.
Born and raised in communist Yugoslavia, which was then under the influence of the Soviet Union, Melania, 55, knows how the people of Eastern European countries suffered from Russia's influence. She left Slovenia, which became an independent country after the breakup of Yugoslavia, and went to the United States in 1996.
She has also praised former US President Ronald Reagan in the past, who ended the Cold War and liberated Eastern Europe from communist rule.
The people of Slovenia, who suffered under communist rule in the past, still do not like Russia. After Putin invaded Ukraine in 2022, Slovenia is now in the anti-Russian camp.
Melania's 81-year-old father, Viktor Knez, regularly visits Slovenia, The Times reported, citing Mary Jordan, author of the book 'The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump. Therefore, Melania is kept informed about Slovenian and European politics through her father. Jordan said, 'Melania's home country is completely on the side of Ukraine and the people there are worried that the United States has suddenly stopped providing weapons to Ukraine.'
Trump praised Putin as a 'genius' immediately after Russia invaded Ukraine three years ago.
However, Melania had supported Ukraine at that time. She said that the killing of innocent civilians was heartbreaking and terrible. She also said that she was praying for the Ukrainian people.
In a post on social media, she urged her followers to donate to the Red Cross to help the Ukrainians.
Trump may have become tougher on Russia now, not only because Putin has shown no desire to stop the war, but also because Melania has consistently urged him to support Ukraine.
