Order on Ravi's habeas corpus writ likely today

The writ petition filed by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) President Ravi Lamichhane and former DIG Chhabilal Joshi for habeas corpus is being heard today. The hearing will be held on Friday in a bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Balkrishna Dhakal. An order is likely to be issued today. Senior advocates Dinesh Tripathi and Surendra Bhandari are preparing to argue on behalf of Jaherwala today. On Thursday, lawyers from both sides of Ravi and Chhabilal had argued. But after the argument was not completed, it was kept under review. Ravi's lawyers had been arguing since last Tuesday. On Tuesday, senior advocates Sushil Pant, Surendra Thapa, Meghraj Pokharel, advocates Narayan Dutt Kandel, Jitendra Jha, Rajendra Sedhai, Sudikya Pant and others argued on behalf of Ravi. Finally, senior advocate Raman Shrestha argued. But his argument was re-argued on that day, Thursday.  Then the lawyers of Chhabilal Joshi's side started the argument. Senior advocate Shambhu Thapa, Govinda Bandi, and advocate Apoorva Khatiwada argued on Joshi's side. Similarly, five people including Deputy Attorney General Lokraj Parajuli, Govinda Khanal, and Dinesh Ghimire argued on behalf of the government attorney. On Chaitra 22, the Butwal bench of the Tulsipur High Court had ordered Lamichhane to be sent to custody for trial on charges related to fraud and organized crime related to the Supreme Cooperative of Butwal. The joint bench of Justices Ramesh Dhakal and Santhosh Parajuli made the order. The Rupandehi District Court had ordered Lamichhane to be released on bail of Rs 10 million. Lamichhane and the government attorney had approached the High Court demanding the quashing of the said order.  After hearing the case, an order was issued to send Lamichhane to prison. Following the High Court's order, on the evening of Chaitra 22, police arrested Lamichhane from Hattigowda's residence in Kathmandu and took him to Rupandehi to be sent to prison.
