“ Rajkummar Rao to Portray Sourav Ganguly in Upcoming Biopic on Cricket Legend"

Mumbai, April 3. Renowned Bollywood director Vikramaditya Motwane has recently revealed he is working on a sports drama film, and reports suggest the lead actor has already been finalized. According to Mid-Day, Motwane is in talks with actor Rajkummar Rao for the sports biopic.

Motwane had been searching for a lead actor for his sports biopic for quite some time. Now, with discussions progressing with Stree 2 star Rajkummar Rao, it is believed the hunt has concluded. If all goes well, this will mark the second collaboration between Rao and Motwane after their 2017 film Trapped.

A source close to the project shared, *"Vikramaditya is working on a sports film based on the life of a real-life athlete. Rajkummar has shown interest in the project."* The source also indicated that filming will soon begin at a rapid pace.

Rumors about a biopic on former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly have been circulating for a while. Earlier reports suggested Ayushmann Khurrana was approached for the role, but he had declined. However, the latest reports indicate Rajkummar Rao may now play a key role in Ganguly’s biopic—though it remains unconfirmed whether the film is indeed based on Ganguly’s life.

Rajkummar Rao made waves at the box office in 2024 with Stree 2, co-starring Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee. The horror-comedy grossed ₹884 crore worldwide.

Apart from this sports biopic, Rao has several other projects in the pipeline, including *Bhul Chuk Maaf* (with Wamiqa Gabbi, releasing May 9), Malik, and Toaster. His upcoming lineup showcases his versatility as an actor in diverse genres.
