NRNA high-level committee meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs raises ethical questions over the Attorney General

Kathmandu, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called a high-level committee of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) for a discussion. The ministry has fixed the date of the meeting for Friday and called the meeting for discussion, said committee coordinator Shesh Ghale.

The meeting was called when the committee was gathering at the Unity General Convention as per the decision taken on Chaitra 21 regarding the NRNA dispute. It is said that Foreign Minister Arju Rana has called the meeting for the purpose of coordination and facilitation as mentioned in paragraph 'H' of point number 39 of the said decision.

The meeting has been scheduled to be held at 1 pm in the meeting hall of the Minister's Secretariat. The meeting has invited committee coordinator Ghale and members Dr. Upendra Mahato, Jiva Lamichhane, Devman Hirachan, Bhawan Bhatta, Ram Pratap Thapa, Kumar Prasad Pant, Binod Kunwar, Umesh Kumar Pudasaini, Janaki Gurung, Kul Acharya, Badri KC and Rabina Thapa.

After the Supreme Court's decision on Chaitra 21, Ghale has already announced the general convention of Ekta in May and has taken the work forward.

On the other hand, Badri KC has been insisting that Ghale will not be able to hold the general convention of Ekta. While such a dispute is going on, a week ago, the Supreme Court's decision implementation directorate had written to the NRNA for the second time to hand over the secretariat. But KC has not yet agreed to hand over the office.

However, the Foreign Ministry has also appointed a representative to hold the general convention of Ekta after the decision implementation directorate's letter. In such a situation, the meeting called by the Foreign Ministry is seen as meaningful.

It is said that Attorney General Ramesh Badal will give the necessary briefing in the meeting. However, there are ethical questions on him. Because he has been continuously debating and opposing Badri KC in the past. The question has also been raised about how impartial his briefing will be. An NRNA activist said, "Prime Minister KP Oli has made him the Attorney General. Now UML Chairman KP Oli is carrying Badri KC, while some UML leaders like Oli are trying to prevent the unity general convention from happening. This makes today's meeting important in many ways and it is necessary to be vigilant, according to NRNA activists."
