The BBC has reported that one passenger survived the Air India plane crash that killed at least 200 people. The plane, which was flying from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, to London, was carrying 242 people, including the crew. At least 200 of them have been confirmed dead. Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik told Indian news agency ANI that the passenger sitting in seat 11A of the Boeing 787-8 aircraft was rescued alive. According to the passenger list released by the Indian government, the passenger sitting in seat 11A was British national Biswas Kumar Ramesh. The BBC reported that Indian media spoke to Ramesh, 40, who is in hospital. Ramesh said, "30 seconds after the plane took off, there was a loud noise and then it hit the ground. Everything happened in an instant." He also showed Indian media his boarding pass showing his name and seat number, the BBC reported. Commissioner Malik told ANI, "He is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital." He suffered serious injuries to his chest, eyes and legs, the Hindustan Times reported, adding that he had come to Ahmedabad to meet his family. His 45-year-old brother Ajay Kumar Ramesh was also on the same plane. He said he believed he was on the other side of the plane. "When I woke up, there were mangled bodies and pieces of the plane around me. I was found by rescue workers in the wreckage," he told the Hindustan Times. He said he had been living in London for 20 years and his wife and children were there. According to Air India, the plane, which was heading to London's Gatwick Airport, was carrying 169 Indians, 53 Britons, 7 Portuguese and 1 Canadian. The plane crashed into a doctors' residence shortly after takeoff. The King and Queen of Britain also issued a statement expressing their grief over the incident. They said, "We are deeply shocked by the horrific incident that took place in Ahmedabad this morning. Our special prayers and deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of all those affected by this tragic incident, which has affected citizens of many countries," the statement said. Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said that emergency teams have been deployed to India and the UK. He told Parliament, "There were British nationals on board the ship. We have taken immediate steps to assist British nationals and their families, working with local authorities in India. Emergency teams have been activated in Delhi and London."
