The third Addition of the Nepali Film Festival is being held in England. The festival, organized by Third Eye, will be held in the Nepali-majority state of England in London in the last week of May, according to the organizers.
In this regard, as announced at a press conference held in London on Sunday, the third Addition of the festival, organized with the aim of promoting Nepali art and cinema in the UK, will showcase the best five films produced between January 2024 and December 2024.
The festival will feature five films selected by the jury from among the Nepali language or Nepali subtitled films submitted from around the world, and will feature special honors and various performances for the artists at the conclusion. The goal is to have around 15 new and old artists from Nepal participate in the festival.
According to Bikash Devkota, founder-director of Third Eye, the organizers have been serious about ensuring that this festival can play an important role as a bridge to promote the international market of the Nepali cinema sector, enhance relations between Nepali and British artists, and provide a 'platform' for Nepali talents in the UK since its initial edition. Last year, 840 films applied for this film festival, and applications have been opened this year as well. Through which Nepali language or subtitled films from all over the world can apply.
The film festival, which is being coordinated by Prajesh Shrestha Media, has a deadline of March 25. According to Shrestha, those interested in applying can apply by filling out the form on the official website of the film festival and the festival. The organizers say that the artists who will come to the UK will also be among those selected for the film screening. The organizers have stated that artists, creators, and filmmakers living in the UK will also be invited to participate in the festival.
According to the organizing organization Third Eye, which has been promoting Nepali films and art since the past, foreign artists will also be participating in the third edition of the festival. The festival, which is believed to play an important role in the transfer of culture between the two countries, will screen both commercial and non-commercial films.
According to the information given by Director Devkota at the press conference, the closing ceremony of this festival is scheduled to be held on May 31 at Greenford Town Hall in England, but other dates and locations will be decided soon. This festival, which is being organized in London, the dream country of many Nepalis, is also a financially expensive festival. For this, preparations are being made to raise sponsors from Nepal and the UK.
The entry fee will be announced in a few days, as the organizers are focused on ensuring that festival participants can watch the film and participate in the opening and closing ceremonies for a fee. To make the festival dispute-free, it has been decided that the jury will select the participating films for the festival.
Speaking at the press conference, Partnership Coordinator and former NRNA UK President Sunil Khadka, on behalf of the organizing team, urged Nepalis living abroad to feel responsible for preserving Nepali art, culture, literature and language, urging them to support the festival by purchasing tickets or sponsoring it. Khadka said that the festival, which will be organized to promote Nepali artists and films, will also create an environment of brotherhood and spiritual encounters among Nepali communities living in different regions and places.
Project Leader Ojesh Singh also highlighted the purpose, importance and preparations of the awards and urged the Nepali community to make the festival a success. This year's film festival organizing committee, which includes Anil Basnet, Subasingh Gurung, Prashant Khadka, etc., aims to involve well-known and new artists and filmmakers from Nepal in the festival and also ensure a significant presence of Nepali filmmakers based in the UK.
