Beijing Film Festival kicks off, 'The Road to the Village' screening (Photo)

Kathmandu. Asia's prestigious Beijing International Film Festival has started. The 14th edition of the festival started at the Yankee Lake International Convention Center in Beijing, the capital of China.



The opening ceremony was grand, with 200 stars shining on the red carpet, including director Peter Chan and renowned filmmaker Zhang Yimou, according to the Global Times.


90-year-old veteran actor Yu Benchang and Hu Ge, the main character of the famous TV drama 'Blossoms Shanghai', also participated in the opening ceremony. Global Times has mentioned that 4 thousand 273 films have applied for this year's edition and this number is the highest so far. It is mentioned that out of the total number of films, there are 1,509 plot films and applications were received from 118 countries. 15 films competed for the festival's top prize, the Titan Award. 12 foreign and three domestic films are selected for the festival.


From Nepal, 'Gaon Inga Bato' is being screened on Friday


The Naveen Subba-directed film 'Gaon Inya Bato', which has been premiered and screened at popular festivals including Toronto, Busan and Mumbai, will be screened at the Beijing International Festival on Friday.


This film is going to be shown in the Beijing Panorama category of the festival. For the first time, a Nepali film is going to be screened at this festival. As a result, Nepali films will create history in the Chinese festival.


Director Subba has reached Beijing on Thursday to participate in the festival. This film, which is being screened in Nepal on May 18, presents the story of the social background of the Rai community and the ups and downs in the relationship between father and son after the construction of a road in the village.
